3/10/2024 0 Comments Valheim house design![]() In retrospect, I should have just made basic structures in the early stage game instead of trying to build a bloated project. I say all this because I did etch up some 'wasted time' as I started to learn this game. I have a 'dumpster' chest when I just dump everything into it after a venture to sort out at a later time. A chest next to benches with appropriate mats. I have a 'load out' chest wher my armor and buffs go right by the door. Its a small structure to cut down on distance. ![]() Everything is compressed along the outer edges of my structure while the center is free and clear. I have 2 homes but now I have built a utility hub. I other words i kinda count clicks for a certain activity then look for a way to reduce it.ĭesigning a home means lots of benches and mats distant from each other for anesthetics. My structure now centers on utility and not just design. It limits my ability to fill space within the structure and makes things difficult to access. I moved away from 'center of structure' fire source. I'd like to start sketching some of my finished products to practice drawing, etc. Now I just want to translate that into real life skills. Valheim has allowed me to exercise and explore my creativity in a way I have never been able to before, which has probably been the most fun part of this experience for me so far! I'm learning that I do have some capacity to sculpt and create in a 3D space. It almost feels like it's creating itself sometimes, and I'm merely the witness. New cool ideas begin blossoming out of the previous pieces I built. Being able to play around inside the 3D space of the game and just start messing around with a build often initiates the inspiration. What works for me is the opposite of you. I don't even have a 3D vision inside my head yet. I'm also not a practiced artist in any way, so I can't come up with great sketches or even floor plans based on a 3D vision I have in my head. Build some spreadsheets to plan, ya know?īut I get so stuck doing this that I become paralyzed. Size, layout, shape, materials, what's inside, what's outside, orientation, where will other structures be relative to this build. ![]() My instinct is to try to plan everything before I even begin. And I like how you create a natural evolution for each level. They fit the game well enough that someone could translate it into a build with few instructions (given they have some experience building) but at the same time it doesn't hold their hand and you don't feel like you're just following a recipe. Then the next one I built on my own, loosely based on some art I saw that day, and it turned out pretty decent. I copied one build from Zeroster and felt the satisfaction of having a good looking house for the first time in a while. I did learn a lot about building from that experience, and from getting inspiration from youtubers and concept artists. Most of that building now is just a kitchen, bar, and a bunch of portals. And I had no idea where to put the bedrooms in it after I was done. One huge rectangle with a single-tiered roof that started at 45 degrees, and transitioned to 26. The concept for the "great hall" I created was just "big." It was big, but it also came out looking like a giant barn. I spent a lot of time flattening way more land than I needed (which caused huge performance issues), and then building some structures I wasn't completely happy with. I knew I wanted to build bigger, but no other plan was in my head. ![]() I couldn't totally blame them, because when I broke off from the pack to dedicate time to building a main base I ended up with something that felt uninspired. Crafting posts were strewn around wherever they could fit. Bases were a hot-mess, only existing to house spawn points and lots of storage for loot. My friends were more focused on bosses than their bases at first.
